In 2001, Mary S. Stephenson began studying neurofeedback under Dr. Siegfried and Susan Othmer in Los Angeles. Pioneers in the field, the Othmers were involved with neurofeedback beginning in 1985. Later, Mary trained under Dr. Penny Montgomery and Dr. Margaret Ayers, also in Los Angeles. In 2006, Mary founded Kansas City Neurofeedback.

Mary S. Stephenson is also a partner and therapist at Plaza Counseling Services. In addition to general counseling, Mary works with children who have experienced significant loss, trauma, abuse, and neglect. Previous to her current practice, Mary was co-founder and senior partner of Chrysalis Center for Family Development in Kansas City, Missouri. Before founding the Chrysalis Center, Mary was senior therapist for Crittenton Behavior Health in the Attachment and Adoption Center. Mary was also Behavior Therapist at NOVA Center for thirteen years where she worked with foster children and children with developmental disabilities. Mary has over twenty seven years’ experience providing behavioral health services to children and families in the greater Kansas City area.
